Nigeria: Man Claiming to Be 289 Years Old Pulls Crowd in Katsina

Katsina — A man who claims to be 289 years this month has been discovered in Katsina State.
Alhaji Abdulkarim Haladu's claim, if proven right, could change the course of history especially as it affects the Guinness Book of World Record. The house where Abdulkarim stays in Dandagoro village, in the outskirts of Katsina city, has turned into a Mecca of a sort. Visitors irrespective of sex, age and status visit the old man to
The story of this man is now the talk of the town. Leadership learnt that other old men in Katsina metropolis have been visiting the man to verify some of his claims, which they find believable.
When Leadership correspondent visited the old man in the two- room apartment he is staying in, Alhaji Abdulkarim told him, "You see, my memory is sharp and I vividly know that I am 289 years old".
When our correspondent pushed more to know if he could remember exactly the year he was born, Abdulkarim said, "The best way to get such information is get an old man that is between 80 to 90 years old who can come here and raise issues that I can confirm".
